Q: How many hours do I need to work to get an "A".
A: You need to fulfill the following hour requirements for the # of credits you are earning.
1 Credit hours…………….. 50 hours over the entire semester
2 Credit hours……..……….100 hours over the entire semester
3 Credit hours………..…….150 hours over the entire semester
The "A" is given to those individuals who follow the guidelines listed in your POLICIES/CONDUCT CODE.
Q: When do I need to have my paper done?
A: Your paper is designed to give Dr. Gilbert an idea of who you are and what your goals are for graduate school or work. Remember, there are 50 people working in the lab every semester and it gets very difficult to keep track of everyone and what they want to do. By having a picture & a paper telling us about you, you’ll get a better letter of recommendation later.
Q: How long should my paper be and what should I write about?
A: Your paper should be 2-3 pages long, double spaced, and done on a word processor. You are not supposed to spend time in the lab doing your paper. Please do it at home.
The content of your paper should include a brief history of your semester, perhaps a little about your family & where you came from, why you’re in psychology, and where you want to go from here, i.e., graduate school right out of your undergraduate program, do you want to work for a year or two and where, what type of program are you interested in, etc……
Q: Am I responsible for recruitment work?
A: Yes. Everyone is responsible for helping with recruitment. You may be asked to cover a posting section or perhaps take two cases of matches out to ABC liquor. Whatever is required as the semester goes on may include you. You’ll have plenty of options, watch for recruitment opportunities on this web site.
Q: Do I have to answer the phones?
A: YES! The telephone is our lifeline to potential participants. Do not let the answering machine pick up if you’re close by & have the time to answer the phone. Everyone will be trained on the telephone screener by the third week of the semester so there is no excuse for people not picking up the phone. Amy keep track of the people who are screening people and those who are not. She has a great reward system for real stars in the area of recruitment so PICK UP THAT PHONE!!!!
Q: What are these posting checks all about?
A: Amy has incorporated into the posting sections a reward system. As people complete their posting sections, they turn in the checks into the box prominently displayed on top of the mailboxes. Mid-semester, Amy tallies up the # of checks each posting staff member has turned in and permits them to BUY some nifty goody from her Treasure Chest of Goodies. The more checks that are turned in, the more things the person can acquire!
