Emile Gourbin Case

Emile Gourbin was a bank clerk suspected of killing his girlfriend by strangulation. Although he produced a strong alibi, scrapings from under his fingernails revealed a powder consisting of rice starch, bismuth, magnesium stearate, zinc oxide, and iron oxide. This turned out to be the same composition as the custom-made face powder of the murdered woman. (Murray and Tedrow, 1991 , p. 7)
