This atlas currently consists of six sections each containing a brief introduction about the section topic as well as a brief review of the way in which these materials are classified. Each section contains approximately forty photomicrographs and an identification and description block. These photomicrographs can be viewed in three different ways:

Scroll

- A sequential run through all of the photomicrographs in the section.

Browse

- A presentation of a screen containing a thumbnail view of all of the photomicrographs in the section which can be expanded when clicked on. This mode is especially useful when trying to match a sample to the atlas.

Tutorial

- A presentation of the classification scheme of the materials in a given section in which photomicrograph examples of each classification category can be called up.
