| The Distance Learning Interest Group, in conjunction with the Education Committee held a managed discussion entitled "Roles & Realities in Distance Education" on Saturday June 28 from 2-4. Speakers from University of South Carolina and University Of Illinois library school programs discussed ways they are applying distance education to meet the changing needs of library school students. A question and answer period followed the presentations.
After the managed discussion, the Distance Learning Interest Group met briefly for a business meeting. It was decided that we will plan a program for Annual 1999 in New Orleans.
This program will highlight the newest technologies available for web-based course development with an emphasis on their usefulness for library instruction applications. At Midwinter we will first have a brief reporting session from group members currently working on such programs, and then we will continue planning for Annual.
