KENTE
CLOTH COUNTERFEIT Some imported printed designs mimic traditional African weaving such as this imitation "kente" cloth manufactured in London. Genuine kente from Ghana is woven in strips that are then sewn together. Kente cloth now has a growing market among African-Americans who wear it to signify their African identity. Ghanaians are now appealing to African-Americans to learn to identify and purchase genuine hand-woven kente to support the artisans in Ghana rather than the fake printed cloth manufactured by European imitators.
