CHIEF INK Photograph by J. C. McCall Ibe Nwosu Kalu displays,
in this posed shot of the type often displayed on the walls of Nigerian
homes, the typical symbols of his chiefly status: Lagos style attire,
accented with a Calabar cap, an English walking stick and, of course,
the Mercedes-Benz. Most important, his son (the owner of the car) is a
successful businessman in Lagos. Successful and affluent children remain
the most significant symbol of accomplishment in Nigeria.
