Configuring Netscape for the Powerpoint Viewer
Netscape has the ability to automatically launch other applications software depending on the type of data linked within a Web document. In order for this to work, however, you need to configure Netscape to recognize those documents and launch the corresponding application.
Netscape makes this relatively easy. All you have to do is:
- From the menubar, select 'Options', and then 'Preferences...'.
- Under 'Preferences', change to the 'Helper Applications' section.
- With the Helper Applications dialog box showing, click the button labeled 'New Type...'.
- For MIME type, enter application
- For MIME subtype, enter x-powerpoint
- Click OK.
- In the Extensions field, enter ppt
- Next, click the radio button labeled 'Launch Application'.
- Then click the 'Browse' button, and locate the Powerpoint viewer executable.
Once you've completed the above steps, your Helper Applications box should look like the graphic below. For MacOS and Windows95 users, the dialog box below will look a little different, but the blanks and the process are the same:
If everything looks alright, then click 'OK'.
Congratulations--you're now ready to start viewing slides.
