Resolution of the Computing Advisory Committee

on SIUC's Participation in Internet2

This version of the resolution was approved unanimously on November 29, 1999.

Whereas it remains a goal of the Computing Advisory Committee and the campus community to foster the development of information and instructional technology at SIUC; and

Whereas there is a need to foster university, corporate, and government partnerships that will in turn provide opportunities for SIUC faculty and students to capitalize on emergent research, teaching, and learning technologies; and

Whereas becoming an Internet2 partner will both enable such partnerships and stimulate the infrastructure development necessary for taking advantage of this next generation of high-speed connectivity;

Therefore Be It Resolved that the Computing Advisory Committee recommends to the Chancellor that SIUC become an Internet2 partner; and

Be It Further Resolved that the University should express its commitment to developing the technology infrastructure necessary for continued participation in the Internet2 project; and

Be It Further Resolved that the Chancellor should constitute a formal Internet2 Project Team, consisting at a minimum of an Executive Liaison, an Engineering Lead, an Applications Lead, a Government Relations Contact, and a Public Affairs Contact; and

Be It Further Resolved that the Project Team prepare a report on how current and future University resources will need to be marshalled to implement and maintain this recommendation.
