Program Curriculum The curriculum designed to prepare the graduate to become a primary care provider.
 

Subsequent to completion of University Core Curriculum and required support courses, the PA program includes 26 months of intense problem-based learning studies and clinical rotations. The 41 hours of required University Core courses and PA support course prerequisites should include a minimum of the following:  Medical Terminology or proficiency, Anatomy, Physiology (or 2 semesters of Anatomy and Physiology), Chemistry (7-8 hrs., 1 semester of organic or biochemistry recommended), Microbiology, Psychology, Sociology, College Algebra and Zoology. Completion of these courses may be at SIUC or another accredited institution. Approved substitutions may be considered.

Students will be selected for the PA professional sequence to begin study only in the Summer
session. Those selected into the program will be notified of acceptance during spring semester prior to
the summer of entry. The curriculum is a structured two-year sequence with one year of PBLC,
laboratory and clinical experiences and one year of clinical rotation with with PBLC.

The Physician Assistant two-year program will consist of:

Phase I - Didactic Phase
Summer PA300 6 hrs.
Fall PA310 (A and B) 6 hrs. - 310A
6 hrs. - 310B
Spring PA320 (A and B) 6 hrs. - 320A
6 hrs. - 320B


Phase II - Clinical Rotation Phase
Summer PA 420 6 hrs.
Fall PA 430 12 hrs.
Spring PA 440 12 hrs.

 

Phase III - Preceptorship
Summer PA 450 6 hrs.
